Family: Aristolochiaceae (Birthwort family)

Mid-Atlantic bloom time: April - May

Wild Ginger has two recognized varieties, which are sometimes listed as separate species:
  -  A. canadense var. canadense has calyx lobes 10-35 mm long, spreading to ascending from the base, and not reflexed.
  -  A. canadense var. reflexum has calyx lobes 5-10 mm long that are strongly reflexed, often more-or-less appressed back against the calyx tube (but spreading or ascending as the fruit starts to develop).

Both varieties (or species) share the same common name(s), and are typically found in upland forests and well-drained floodplains.
