Family: Asteraceae (Aster / Sunflower family)

Mid-Atlantic bloom time: late May - November

Chicory, while native to the Old World, has become firmly established in the Americas as both a weed and a crop. Varieties are cultivated for salad leaves, or roots, which which, when baked and ground, have been used as a coffee substitute and food additive. Chicory is also grown as a forage crop for livestock.
