American Alumroot's basal leaves resemble those of Saxifragaceae plants in the Mitella and Tiarella genera. The leaves are deeply cordate with lobes of various sizes, often white-mottled. Its flowers are in small clusters atop stems 30-140cm high. It is often found in dry rocky habitats.
