Lyre-leaf sage is a common native herb found throughout the mid-Atlantic area. It is a perennial that typically grows to 20–80 cm tall. It forms a basal rosette of leaves that are up to 20 cm long and lyre-shaped. The basal leaves typically have a center vein that is darker and wine-purple. Its flowers are lavender to blue (occasionally white), and have two lower lips.
