Family: Primulaceae (Primrose family)

Mid-Atlantic bloom time: June - August

Fringed Loosestrife has characteristic yellow nodding flower heads and ciliate-fringed leaf petioles. The flower petals are usually slightly toothed or lobed. It offers oil instead of nectar as a reward to pollinators. Unlike it close relative Whorled Loosestrife (Lysimachia quadrifolia), the Fringed Loosestrife has two opposite large leaves along its stem, often accompanied by two much smaller auxillary leaves.
