Family: Phrymaceae (Lopseed family)
Mid-Atlantic bloom time: June - November
Winged Monkeyflower has nearly sessile flowers, with pedicels only 2–15 mm long. Its leaves mostly have short petioles (but the upper leaves may be sessile).
Its main stem has four winged angles, which give it part of its common name 'winged'. The other part of the common name 'monkeyflower' it given because the flower is thought to resemble a monkey's face.
It closely resembles Square-stemmed Monkeyflower (Mimulus ringens), but that species has flowers longer pedicels (20–45 mm long) and leaves that are all sessile.
